This issue includes articles on the US' escalating threats against Iran. Featured is a special piece on this war drive by Dr. Naser Zarafshan, in both English and Farsi. Included on the international front are articles on the current occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the build up of war against Sudan. On the home front, articles explore the issue of police brutality, both in the killings of Frank Paul and Robert Dziekanski. Also included is an article on the current attack on Muslim women through elections legislation in Canada. Additionally, two interviews are featured; one with Indigenous activist Ray Bobb on the question of treaties; and one with Rav Ghuman of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, on the Sears lockout imposed on his Union. Notably as well, this issue has a report back from the international conference for the Cuban 5, "Breaking the Silence", held in Toronto, Canada in Nov 2007. Related to Cuba, this issue also includes Fidel Castro's latest reflections and a speech by Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque on the UN vote against the blockade on Cuba. On the homefront this issue has an article on the CUPE strike featuring an interview with former city councillor Tim Louis. A special feature on the case of the Cuban 5 political prisoners held in US jails is also included, along with the full transcript of a BBC interview with Gerardo Hernandez - one of the Cuban 5. In addition an interview with three Vancouver activists explains their experience in the July 2007 Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba. This issue includes articles on the crisis of war and occupation in Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia. Featured in both Spanish and English are articles on the recent repression in Suchitoto El Salvador, Fidel Castro's Reflections and an article on imperialist exploitation of water resources, by our contributor from Cuba, Manuel Yepe. Also included are two articles on Indigenous struggles in Canada - one on a recent RCMP attack against a BC native community and one on the selling off of water resources. Also on the home front, this issue includes an article on the crisis in the US health care system, a reality exposed most recently by the documentary SiCKO. Articles on Cuba include a look back to the July 26th movement, the upcoming elections in Cuba, an interview with Ramon Labanino (one of the Cuban 5) and a special remembrance of Cuban revolutionary Vilma Espin.
